Default Random Arenas - Revise Gladiator Title Track.

I, like many others, played a lot of RA over the weekend.

On the whole, I had a lot of fun, and played with and against some very good players.

Without going into any detail, or taking any sides on the leaver vs anti-leaver arguments that have been exhaustively covered in other threads, I would like to suggest a change to the Gladiator Point mechanics.

Currently, a Gladiator Point is awarded for a run of 10 wins in either RA or TA.

The fact that you need 10 consecutive wins is in my opinion the root cause of the entire leaver/anti-leaver debate.

I would suggest the Gladiator title track is totally revised so that one Gladiator Point is awarded for each win, and that the number of points needed per level of the Gladiator title is increased in proportion. E.g. lvl 1 Gladiator needs 250 points rather than 25.

This should encourage people to play with whatever random team they find themselves in, as any team has as much chance as any other team in one single match. It is the needing 10 wins in a row that causes people to leave if they don’t see a team they think can manage this.

To me, RA should be a fast and furious PVP experience that you can play if you only have 15 minutes to spare.

This is not currently the case, as at present you need to have up to an hour free in case you do find yourself on a good winning team.

All other mechanics should remain unchanged, i.e. you stay on the same team after the battle if you win, and 10 wins will transfer you to TA.

This seems to me to be fairly simple way to add some extra fun to RA and to help resolve the "Leaver" issue.

Just remove glad points from RA altogether. The point is that it's too easy to get 1 win, and therefore too easy to farm points in RA or TA. Getting 10 wins gives you a decent chance of actually playing another decent team, which makes the title hard to get.

Therefore, remove glad points from RA, and if you really want, add a new title track that you can earn points in from RA.

i think it would be too easy that, time consuming yes , but easy. its easier to get gladiator points at the moment through random arenas for you dont have to kill the others monk every round. people leave and return to get a team with monk which in turn makes it even easier to get them through random arenas because many times you will have the entire opposing team leaving saving you time a risk ruining your streak. if you dont want leavers try team arenas and organize a team.

good idea i like it so difficult to get 10 in a row, even a reduction to 5 in row would be good

Revising is the Gladiator title track the only good solution to leavers. It should never have been 10 wins in a row to get a point in the first place. That makes playing completely pointless if you get anything less than 10 wins in a row, which isn't very fair to the players: for example if they win 9 times in hard-fought battles and get nothing.

Why isn't Fame like this, or Champion points like this?

Gladiator title is the only title like this and that is why it is the only one that comes with these problems.

It's easy to get one win in GVG or Tombs also and yet they give points for that. RA and TA should too.

The solution isn't to take Gladiator away, it's to bring it in line with the other titles: you make some miniscule progress on it every time you get a win.

Fame is like that because you have to win several in a row, or for a few serious streaks if you really want to earn Fame at a serious pace. Champion points is like that because you need to have a considerably high ranking (thus playing at the high-end).

The Commander title was proven broken at release because of the dozens of folks that decided to /roll it. Now it's nearly a badge of shame.

Justhinking out loud here but:

5 in a row:1 point
10 in a row : 2 point
15 in a row : 3 point
ect....

that could work if we do a slight increase in the title

I agree this title should be more like fame. I don't do RA or TA much anymore because my teamates keep leaving after only 6 wins or so then we lose because we lose our flow. Its suks we don't get anything for at least making it past 5 wins. 10 wins is just too much for only 1 point.

i like that idea but i think there should be a slightly bigger reward for winning more in a row so i think it should be


5=1 point
10=3 points
15=5 points

or something like that

That's an idea I can get behind. Remember, it's cumulative, so if you get a 10 win streak, then you've earned 3 points total, and 15 would get you 6 total. It would be smart to cap the gain at 3 points for every 5 wins after that. Gaining the higher tiers at the highest rate would require some serious TA time.

Triple the current tiers and earned points, and it could be applied retro-actively, fairly and safely.

The point is with Fame you get something for every win. But you could waste 45 minutes to over an hour getting 9 hard-fought wins in a row only to then get nothing in terms of Glad points. The concept of "getting nothing at all unless you get 10 wins in a row" is the source from which all the problems stem.

After Champion points got nerfed from requiring a 1500 rating, then nerfed way down to 1200, it was no longer really "high-end" playing.

The Gladiator title track is in need of a similar change.

Current 10 wins in a row makes the gladiator to be some challenge. Proposed change would make this title very easy to obtain and will quickly inflate it.

why not have both titles?

Gladiator as a higher skill requiring title for 10 wins.
And say... Battler for individual wins.

That way if you get a team that gets 9 wins you still get rewards but you get the biggest reward for being in an efficient good team.

If it's too much why are there so many people with Gladiator titles?

Locking this thread, and all the other "Fix Leavers" threads in Sardelac, for the time being. When the new system is revealed, we'll look at it, look at these threads, and see if they need reopened or not. Until then, let's all be patient and see what we get.
